It started from a practical annoyance: many online pickers made you create an account or click past pop-ups before you could spin once. We wanted a wheel a teacher could open on a classroom projector in seconds, or a streamer could pull up mid-stream without losing the audience. That is still the goal: open the page, add your options, and spin.
Why a wheel instead of a random number
Groups make small decisions all the time: who presents first, which restaurant to order from, which student answers next, which giveaway entry wins. A spinning wheel suits these moments because everyone in the room can watch the outcome happen, instead of having to trust a number on someone's screen. Each spin is generated and displayed in your browser. The result is decided on your device when you press spin, so the outcome does not depend on a server, and the tool keeps working on a slow connection once the page has loaded. The animation is for show: the result does not depend on how fast you click or where the wheel appears to slow down.
One practical note: a wheel is random, not "balanced". The same entry can win twice in a row, as with any fair draw. If you need everyone to be picked once, remove each winner after their turn.
