Everything you need to know about the free movie genre wheel above — how
it works, how to customise it, and how to save or share your list.

1. What Is a Movie Genre Wheel?
A Movie Genre Wheel is an interactive random genre
picker that solves the most familiar problem in modern viewing:
spending longer choosing something to watch than you actually spend
watching it. Add a list of genres, spin the wheel, and let it randomly
commit you to one for the night.
The problem it solves has a name — "analysis paralysis." With
thousands of titles spread across dozens of platforms, more choice has
paradoxically made deciding harder, not easier. Narrowing the decision
to a single genre first turns an overwhelming, thousands-way choice
into a focused browse through a category you already know you want.
You can use it for date nights, family movie nights, solo viewing
sessions, or as a weekly planner that picks a different genre for
every night. Simply load a mood, add your own genres or titles, and
start spinning.
2. How to Use This Spinner?
Using the Movie Genre Wheel takes only a few simple steps.
1
Load a mood or start with the defaults
The spinner starts with 12 core genres already loaded. Tap a Mood
Filter preset like Horror Night or Date Night to instantly swap in
a curated set instead.
2
Add your own genres
Type any genre, subgenre, or specific movie title into the entry
field, or open Bulk Paste Genres to drop in a
whole watchlist at once.
3
Customize the settings
Adjust spin duration, choose a music style, and toggle the Genre
Intel card, the Movie Night pairing, confetti, or Remove Genre
After Spin.
4
Spin the wheel
Click Spin the Wheel or tap the center circle.
The wheel rotates and randomly lands on one of your entries.
5
Read the result and keep going
A Genre Intel card and a Movie Night pairing appear beside your
result. Spin again whenever you need another pick — every spin is
logged in Watch History.
3. Wheel Customization
The Movie Genre Wheel gives you control over how the spinner looks,
sounds, and behaves. You can change the
spinning music
between a drum roll, carnival tones, or a fanfare, and adjust the
spin duration to make each result faster or more
dramatic.
The Genre Intel card shows the mood, tone, golden
era, best occasion, and an iconic example film for whatever genre you
land on — turning each spin into a small piece of film trivia. The
Movie Night pairing suggests a snack, a drink, and a
viewing atmosphere to match: popcorn and cola for Action, wine and
candles for Romance, the lights off for Horror. Both can be switched
off in Settings if you just want the result.
Remove Genre After Spin automatically removes the
selected genre from the wheel once it's chosen — useful for planning
several movie nights in a row without repeating a genre. If you'd
rather see a repeat, turn on Allow Duplicates when
adding entries.
4. Adding Your Genres
Adding genres to the spinner is straightforward. When you open the
Movie Genre Wheel, 12 default genres are already loaded and ready to
spin.
To build your own list, type a genre into the entry field and press
Enter, or use a Mood Filter preset to load a curated
set for a specific occasion in one tap.
For a longer list, the Bulk Paste feature adds many
entries at once — one per line or comma-separated. This also works for
specific movie titles, so you can turn the wheel into a watchlist
picker instead of a genre picker.
Before spinning, remove any genre you or your viewing partner
genuinely aren't in the mood for tonight. The wheel gives the most
satisfying results when every entry on it is something you'd actually
enjoy watching.
5. How a Spin Is Decided
When you start a spin, the wheel rotates through the genres currently
on it and gradually slows to a stop on one of them. Every entry is
given an identical-size slice of the circle, so with N genres loaded,
each one has the same 1-in-N chance on every spin.
The result is generated automatically — you don't choose it, and past
spins have no influence over the next one. Once the wheel stops, the
selected genre appears alongside its Genre Intel card and Movie Night
pairing.
If you want another selection, simply spin again. With
Remove Genre After Spin enabled, each result is taken
out of the pool first, so you can work through an entire list without
a repeat.
6. Saving & Sharing
Your genre list is automatically saved in your browser's local storage
while you use the spinner, so you don't have to rebuild it every time
you leave the page and come back.
If you want to hand the exact same wheel to someone else, click
Share Wheel — a link containing your current genre
list is copied to your clipboard. Anyone who opens it sees the same
entries, ready to spin.
None of this is sent to a server or tied to an account. Your genre
list, mood filter selections, and Watch History exist only in your
browser for the current session and device — nothing is collected or
used for advertising.
7. Mood Filter Presets
Mood Filters replace the wheel's contents with a genre set curated for
a specific occasion, so you don't have to build a list from scratch
every time.

8. Auto-Save Your Wheel
Your wheel entries are automatically saved to your browser's local
storage, so you can close the tab and return later without recreating
your list.
Simply open the page again and your previously saved genres will be
loaded back into the wheel. Saved entries are specific to the browser
and device you used, and clearing your browser's site data will remove
them.
