picker that decides what to listen to next at the click of a button.
Add a list of genres, spin the wheel, and let it randomly select one
for you — no scrolling through a streaming library, no
second-guessing.
Most listeners settle into the same handful of genres without meaning
to. A random genre spinner interrupts that habit by giving every genre
on your wheel an equal, unbiased chance of being picked, including
styles you might never have chosen on your own.
The wheel comes preloaded with 20 popular genres spanning Hip-Hop,
Rock, Jazz, Classical, Electronic, Pop, R&B, Country, Metal,
Reggae, Blues, Funk, Soul, Punk, Folk, Latin, Indie, K-Pop, Gospel,
and EDM. You can also bulk-add your own niche genres, remove ones
you're not interested in, or add a genre multiple times to increase
its odds.
It's useful for personal music discovery, DJ warm-up sets, "genre of
the day" content challenges, classroom music appreciation activities,
and settling a group's debate over what to play next.
2. How to Use This Spinner?
Using the Music Genre Wheel takes only a few simple steps.

Browse or replace the genres
20 popular genres are preloaded. Remove any you don't want by
clicking the ✕ next to them, or try a quick preset like Party or
Chill to swap the whole list in one click.

Add genres in bulk
Building a longer or more niche list? Use
Bulk Paste Genres to drop in dozens of sub-genres
— Vaporwave, Afrobeats, Shoegaze, Bossa Nova — at once instead of
typing them one by one.

Customize the settings
Adjust spin duration, spin music, and volume, or toggle confetti,
the result popup, duplicate entries, and Remove Winner After Spin
to change how the wheel behaves.

Spin the wheel
Click the play icon in the center of the wheel
or the spin-the-wheel-button below it. The wheel rotates and
randomly lands on one of your genres.

Go listen
Once a genre is picked, open Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube,
search for a playlist in that genre, and discover something new.
3. Wheel Customization
The Music Genre Wheel gives you control over how the spinner behaves.
You can change the spinning music if you want a
different sound while the wheel rotates, and adjust the
spinning time to make each pick faster or more
dramatic.
Remove Winner After Spin takes the selected genre out
of the wheel the moment it's chosen. This is the setting to use for a
genre marathon — working through every style on your wheel once, in a
random order, without any repeats until the list is empty.
If you want certain genres to come up more often, turn on
Allow Duplicates and add that genre more than once.
And if you want to start completely from scratch,
Clear All empties the wheel so you can build a new
list.
4. Adding Your Own Genres
When you open the Music Genre Wheel, you'll see the 20 default genres
already loaded. From there you can add, remove, or replace entries
however you like.
The preset chips above the entry list swap in a
ready-made set in one click — Party, Chill, Workout, Focus, and Old
School each pull together genres suited to that mood, or you can reset
back to All 20 Genres at any time.
For a longer or more specific list, the
Bulk Paste Genres box lets you add many entries at
once — great for niche sub-genres like Drill, City Pop, Synthwave, or
Flamenco that aren't part of the default 20.
Before spinning, check your list to make sure it reflects what you
actually want to hear, and use Clear All if you'd
rather start a completely new wheel.
5. How a Spin Is Decided
When you start a spin, the wheel rotates through every genre currently
on your list and gradually slows to a stop on one of them.
The stopping point comes from
crypto.getRandomValues(), the Web Crypto API's
cryptographically secure random source, so results can't be predicted
or seeded ahead of time. With N genres on the wheel, each one has
exactly a 1 in N chance on every spin, independent of past results.
If you've enabled Allow Duplicates and added a genre
more than once, that genre's odds increase proportionally — for
example, adding Rock three times out of 10 total entries gives Rock a
30% chance on each spin.
6. Saving & Sharing
Your genre list is automatically saved in your browser while you use
the spinner, so you don't have to rebuild it every time you leave the
page.
If you add a custom list and come back later, your entries are still
there. If you'd rather share your exact wheel with someone else, click
Share Wheel to copy a link — anyone who opens it sees
the same genre list, ready to spin. It's a handy way to settle a
group's what-should-we-listen-to debate before a party or road trip.
To start over with a different list, use Clear All
and add new entries.
7. Auto-Save Your Wheel
Your wheel entries are automatically saved to your browser's local
storage, so you can return to the website later without having to
rebuild your genre list.
Simply open the website again, and your previously saved entries will
already be loaded into the wheel.
Your saved entries are stored locally in your browser, which means
they're specific to the browser and device you use. Clearing your
browser's site data may remove the saved list.
